CIDA PSU Pakistan TORs for Project Monitor   Intro    Home

Professional Services
The professional services the PSU provides are based on cross-sectoral input from all its sections, i.e. Administration and Business Center, Logistics, and Finance as well as input from the PSU’s General Manager and Director. DFATD’s definition of Professional Services is that the PSU should function as an internal consultant providing professional advice on issues such as

Financial planning and auditing
Advice on how to do business in the local environment
For all practical purposes however, Professional Services simply means “knowledge transfer”. Advice asked can range from “how to obtain an NOC from the government” to queries about CBR booklets, MOUs and visas. The means of this ‘knowledge transfer” may range from information given over the telephone to formal meetings or reports commissioned by clients. In fact, the bulk of Professional Services provided is given on an ad hoc basis as need arises and often informally.

On the formal side and in the areas in which the PSU is getting increasingly involved, Professional Services is providing advice on organizational development as well as occasionally being invited to participate as members of missions and evalutions of other projects. In terms of financial advice, this entails budgeting and auditing of DFATD and non-DFATD projects, CBOs, NGOs. Professional advice regarding logistics range from procurement advice (both in-shore and off-shore) to recommending reliable companies for shipping, software, equipment, etc. The Administration Section mainly gets involved in contracting and recruitment queries.
